Our Imbolc, Yule and Samhain Altar

This video will share our recent altar themes used by us for the Sabbats of Imbolc 2012, Yule 2011 and Samhain 2011. To accompany the video, I shall embark on a short description of each of the Sabbats (Wiccan celebrations) so that those not familiar will have a better concept.

We celebrate the Wheel of the Year which encompasses Samhain (31 October - 1 November), Yule (20-23 December), Imbolc (February 2), Ostara (19 - 22 March), Beltane (1 May), Midsummer (19 -23 June), Lughnasadh (1 August), and Mabon (21-24 September).

Imbolc: This is the time of year for rededications, promises, pledges and a time of setting goals. It is considered a "fire" Sabbat. Some traditions will do initiations at this time. The Goddess associated with Imbolc is usually Brighid.

Yule (Midwinter): Many celebrate the rebirth of the God during this Sabbat. He is portrayed by the newborn solstice sun. Depending upon the the person, coven or group, this is celebrated differently. Some celebrate is alone and others will hold a coven or group celebration.

Samhain: This is considered by most to be the most important Sabbat of the four main Sabbats by most Wiccans. Samhain is a celebration of our ancestors who have passed on. A time of communication with them as well as the offering of gifts to them. It is a time when the veil between both worlds is at its thinnest. At times the spirits of those who have passed are invited to attend the celebrations. Samhain is also considered our New Year... a time for new beginnings and all associated with such.

These are very short descriptions of the Sabbats identified in the video. Each Sabbat is a hub in itself and as time allows, I will work out a hub for all Sabbats mentioned within this hub.

I refer to these as Wiccan Sabbats, however, they are shared by many of the various Pagan Paths.

Dale, I saw a few dragons on your altar! (I'm a huge dragon lover.) BTW we have the same athame! You're altar was beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing it!

Hello Daughter of Maat! Great to see you as always! Yes, there are quite a few dragons around our home. My wife is a dragon collector. :) She loves them as well. I like them, and keep them fed so they don't eat the cat! That is cool about the same athame. :) Thanks your for your praise of the altar as well. BB

As usual, Dale, you've increased my knowledge of Wiccan. I am not a follower but have interest in all religions, etc. and am delighted to have such a knowledgeable teacher. The music accompanying this Hub is exquisite -- thanks. Best/Sis

Nice job on the video. Like the music. Is that your working altar?

Got to say that I used to think that our Gardnerian outer court and inner court altars were busy with all of our stuff on it but I have to say that you have a LOT of stuff on your altar.

I think I saw a spot open...you can still fit one more thing there. -big cheesy grin-

Hello Raptorcat! Great to see you and glad that you liked the video and the music.

Yes, that is our actual working altar and we have removed some stuff from it. There are more items under the altar for use when needed. Plus a store of candles and altar clothes.

So you think I could fit one more thing on there? Any ideas what needs to be there. :)

Appreciate the comment!

Well, since you have a Bastet statue, how about a Horus statue? It might fit if you find one that is not too big.

I have just talked with my wife about your thoughts and she thinks as I do, that it is a great suggestion. We will be checking out some statues of Horus, about the same size as Bast. Thanks for your suggestion!

I was very intrigued by your hub. I have read up on the subject for many years. I was born to a Catholic and Protestant couple. My mother (Protestant) let our father raise us Catholic until they divorced. After that I remember my mother exploring many different faiths. Although they were Catholic, the women of my fathers family were always called McHugh witches. So in the course of my life I have read quite a bit and tried a few things, but never truly committed myself the way you and your wife are. It is nice to see actual examples of your practices here on a hub. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Marla! Thanks for stopping by, reading and commenting. I am glad that you enjoyed the hub. Much like you, I was raised in a very different setting than what I practice now. :) I am always open minded and never close the doors to any path that I may run across. I am very eclectic and have taken from here and there to create a mix of my spiritual path.
